A mild 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook parts of Tennessee on Saturday morning, with tremors felt across the Southeast—from Knoxville and Chattanooga to Atlanta, Asheville, and Greenville.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit just after 9 a.m. and was about 15 miles deep.
The East Tennessee Seismic Zone stretches from Tennessee into northwest Georgia and northeastern Alabama. It’s known as one of the most earthquake-prone areas in the Southeast.
There haven’t been any big quakes in the area, but the smaller ones that do happen every now and then have caused a bit of minor damage.
